Antao Vaz
It is grown mainly in the region of Vidigueira (Alentejo-Portugal). Medium, semi-compact, cylindrical-conical cluster. Large, spheroidal berry. Vine of high vigour, horizontal or semi-rigid growth habit. It prefers warm climates with good exposure and deep, dry, fertile soils. Average bud-burst period. Very rich yield, it prefers medium or long, quite rich winter pruning, thus taking advantage of its maximum productive potential. Not suitable for traditional bilateral cordon training systems. Moderately susceptible to powdery and downy mildew. Susceptible to botrytis, Esca disease and dead arm. Its ripening period is medium. It produces citrus yellow wines; the aroma is reminiscent of ripe tropical fruits. Good structure, slightly acidic, well suitable for aging. This variety is recommended for warm areas.
