Ampelographic characters:
Present in the hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, it has been grown for a long time in spite of its inconsistent productivity. It has recently been re-evaluated by selecting the best biotypes. The bud has an expanded, white, cottony apex with slight pinkish shades. The leaves are large, pentagonal and three-lobed. The slightly open or closed petiolar sinus has a slightly narrow V shape and closed or open shallow lateral sinuses. The underside is characterized by a sub-woolly tomentum. The medium-sized, truncated, pyramid-shaped cluster is mostly simple shaped and moderately compact. The berry is medium-sized, sub-elliptical or elliptical. The pruinose, slightly thick and dotted skin has an intense golden colour tending to pinkish. The flesh has a distinct herbaceous taste.
Cultural aptitude:
vine of high vigour with downright growth habit and shoots with long internodes. Environments with late frosts and too humid and fertile soils should be avoided. The best results are obtained on well exposed, though not too dry, hillside areas, as it is susceptible to summer drought.
Training system and pruning:
it adapts to different training systems, provided the pruning is long. It adapts very well to Guyot and Sylvoz-type counter-espaliers, although it requires an adequate green pruning and tying.
Susceptibility to diseases and adverse conditions:
susceptible to powdery mildew, downy mildew and grapevine phytoplasmas. Good resistance to botrytis and sour rot. Susceptible to winter cold.
Enological potential:
it produces a pale straw-yellow wine with greenish highlights, vegetable scents, good structure and sustained acidity. Suitable for blending with Glera “Tondo biotype”, conferring structure and enhancing its finesse.
Clones in propagation:
Glera Lunga VCR40, VCR50, VCR90, ISV3.
