Erbaluce
Cultivated for a long time in the municipality of Caluso and its surrounding areas, it has local origin although it has a certain resemblance to some Trebbiano varieties. The cluster is medium-to-large, cylindrical, winged, of medium compactness. The spheroid-shaped berry is of amber-yellow colour, sometimes with pink shades. It has a transparent skin with persistent navel, and the pulp is slightly crunchy and simple tasting. This very vigorous vine, with a good but inconstant yield and average-early bud-bursting, prefers expanded training systems and long pruning. The ripening happens quite early; the grape is often processed in drying rooms to obtain the well-known “passito” wine. It produces a dry white wine, straw yellow in colour, with a delicate, soft, slightly bitter bouquet. If the grapes are dried, it produces a special wine of ancient renown.
