Maiolica
Of unknown origins, although it has been cultivated in the Abruzzo Region for a long time, this black grape variety is now sporadically spread in the province of Pescara and Chieti, but it can also be found in very small areas of the province of Macerata (in the Marche region).

Production: abundant and quite constant.
Ampelographic characters:
bud with medium apex, fan-shaped, cottony, pale green in color with slightly pink edges. Leaf of average size, pentagonal, with five/six lobes, with an open or semi-closed lyre petiolar sinus, glabrous, pale green in color. Cluster of medium size, conical-cylindrical, sometimes winged, semi-loose. Medium-sized berry, ovoid, with an average pruinose skin, black in color. Loose pulp with a neutral flavor.
Cultural aptitudes:
averagely vigorous vine.
Training system and pruning:
it adapts to growing systems of average expansion and accepts pruning of average length.
Sensitivity to diseases and adversities:
sensitive to winter cold; medium resistance to both downy and powdery mildew, quite resistant to rot.
Enological potential:
when vinified alone, it gives birth to a deep red wine with violet reflections, with a bouquet of violets and spices, an intense flavor, not very tannic and with low acidity.
