Ampelographic characters:
the bud has an expanded, pale green tending to pinkish apex. The pentagonal five-lobed leaf is medium-large; the upper lateral sinuses are closed, the lower ones are lyre-shaped. The petiolar sinus is open, the leaf upper side is intensely green in color, while the lower one is hairless and medium-green. The petiole is of medium thickness, rather long, of green colour and with marked vinous nuances up to the beginning of its ribs. The medium-large, conical-pyramidal cluster is sometimes winged and sparse, with a thick, medium-long, herbaceous-woody peduncle. The medium-large, ovoidal berry has a blue-black skin. The taste is neutral.
Training system and pruning:
average vigour and good basal fertility, due to which it can be trained both on “tendone” and spurred cordon.
Susceptibility to diseases and adverse conditions:
susceptible to coulure and millerandage especially in cold and rainy springs and in too fertile soils. Excellent resistance to downy mildew, botrytis and powdery mildew.
Overall rating:
excellent variety as far as precocity, organoleptic characteristics and aesthetic appearance are concerned. Interesting for domestic market productions. On a negative note, the easy detachment of the berries from the rachis tends to make it not very suitable for transport.
Clones in propagation:
Black Magic VCR135, VCR377.
Clones undergoing homologation procedure:
Black Magic VCR136, VCR137.
