Albillo Mayor
Variety cultivated in Castile and Leon, mainly in Ribera del Duero, Burgos, Soria, Segovia and Valladolid, sometimes under the name Blanco del País, Doradilla, Picadillo Blanco and Torrontés. With the name Albillo is also perhaps authorized yet a different variety: in Madrid, Ávila, Salamanca and Toro (Albillo Real), in Almansa, Manchuela, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, La Rioja, Principality of Asturias (Chasselas B.), in Cantabria, Chacolí de Vizcaya and the Canary Islands. It has a medium, highly compact, cylindrical cluster. Spherical, small berry. Variety of average-low vigour, upright growth habit, with early bud-burst period. The yield is medium. It is susceptible to powdery mildew; the ripening period is early. It produces aromatic, fruity and structured wines of medium-high acidity. When blended with other varieties, it produces wines of good freshness and bouquet.
