Budburst period: medium-late.
Ripening period: medium.
Yield: good and constant.
Ampelographic characters:
the variety has a high variability both in terms of vigour and cluster shape/size. The bud has a slightly open greenish-yellowish apex with wine-red edges and sparse prostrate hairs. The medium, rounded, three-lobed leaf has an open lyre-shaped petiolar sinus. The lower side is hairless. The medium, pyramidal-truncated, compact, winged cluster holds a medium-sized elliptical berry of an irregularly distributed blue-violet hue, with a quite thick and pruinose skin and a juicy pulp with simple taste.
Cultural aptitude:
very vigourous variety with upright growth habit, with medium-robust shoots and short internodes. Well adaptable to different growing areas. It is incline towards warm climates and, in northern areas, well exposed and ventilated hills. The best qualitative results are obtained by growing in slightly acidic, stony or slightly calcareous soils.
Training system and pruning:
adaptable to different systems of pruning, privileging those of medium expansion such as spurred cordon, and short and not too strong pruning.
Susceptibility to diseases and adverse conditions:
average, slightly susceptible to botrytis in colder, wetter climates. Susceptible to magnesium deficiency. It has an important incompatibility with SO4 and 140Ru; it sometimes shows thickening of the grafting point just since the plantation, especially on SO4, 779 Paulsen and 140Ru.
Enological potential:
it produces wines of light ruby-red colour, with a pleasant and particular fruity harmonious and light-structured taste. In warm areas it can produce a rosé wine, with delicate, fruity, and pleasant bouquet. Normally the potential for sugar accumulation is high, but the colour falls quickly, and the acidity is generally low, so it is necessary to limit vigour and productivity with proper management.
