Foglia Tonda

Foglia Tonda is a grape variety recently rediscovered in the Chianti region, though it has been present in Tuscany since ancient times. It features a medium, expanded shoot tip with white arachnoid tomentum, often tinged with carmine. The leaf is orbicular, medium-sized, and either entire or with slightly defined lobes; the petiolar sinus is a closed lyre shape or closed with overlapping edges. The upper surface is dark green, arachnoid, medium-bright to nearly opaque, with green veins. The bunch is medium to medium-large, semi-compact or compact, pyramidal, and winged with one or two wings. The berry is medium-sized and slightly obovoid, with very pruinose blue skin of medium consistency and a neutral flavor. This variety shows medium vigor and productivity. Suitable for winemaking, when blended with other typical Chianti varieties, it adds robustness to the wine and enhances its aging potential.
