NeosVine is a joint project between two Regionally-owned Companies funded
by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region under the POR FESR 2014-2020

IGA Technology Services s.r.l., in collaboration with Vivai Cooperativi Rauscedo Soc. Coop. Agricola, has launched the NeosVine project for the deployment of modern green biotechnologies, also known as "New Breeding Plant Technologies, NBPTs", in the grape-growing industry.
The project envisages the carrying out of research activities on the vine focused on the application of an innovative approach to genome editing by using the CRISPR/Cas9 system, and the incorporation of this pioneering genomic technology into the practice of genetic improvement of the vine, with the aim of developing new grape plants suitable for an innovative and sustainable wine-making and grape-growing industry in the region, within the context of a production chain which known for playing a strategic role in the regional agri-food segment.
Vivai Cooperativi Rauscedo Soc. Coop. Agricola, world leader in the vine nursery business, participates in this project by providing it with its own tools and expertise in the selection and regeneration of plant materials necessary for the implementation of the different stages of the process, through the in vitro cultivation technique and the state-of-the-art diagnostic techniques.
The expected result is the implementation of a vine prototype containing the genetic corrections desired for specific genes, which represents a step towards the adaptation of the features of vine cultivars of regional interest to the market requirements and the new climatic scenarios, safeguarding their genetic identity at the same time.
